Dear Player/Parent/Guardian/Club Manager,

FA CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE TRIAL DATES & INFORMATION

Bristol Academy are delighted to inform you of the details for the forthcoming trials for Bristol Academy COE. The centre is a vital part of the Football Association’s strategy for Girls’ and Women’s Football as it gives talented players the chance to develop and improve and hopefully progress into the regional and national training camps. In addition the Centre of Excellence is also the only avenue where young players will be scouted by England National Team scouts.

The centre will involve trials for girls at U10, U12, U14 and U16 age groups for which all details are below:

Players who are successful in the above trials will be invited for a 4 week trial with the current squads at the WISE Campus. Time are listed below:

Players who attend the trials will participate in a number of football related practices and small-sided games in order to test their suitability for the squads.  All sessions will be delivered by fully qualified coaches from Bristol Academy, with UEFA qualified coaches acting as assessors to help coaches identify the best players.

The trials are open to all players who wish to attend. However, it is important to stress that the purpose of the Football Association Program for Excellence for girls is to identify players of outstanding ability, and place them in a technical and educational program designed to produce excellence in conjunction with personal development.

To attend the trials each player MUST complete an assessment registration form and either post it to the address above for the attention of Sophie Dyer or bring it along on the day. Failure to produce a completed registration form will result in exclusion from the trials. Please ensure these forms are filled out in full.

Trialists are asked to ensure they wear suitable clothing and footwear, bring plenty of fluids and shin pads. Goalkeepers must have goalkeeping gloves. Trials at WISE will take place on rubber crumb Astroturf. To make the most of the assessments players are advised to arrive 15 minutes before the start time.

If selected, trialists should be aware that they will be required to commit to training with the Centre of Excellence at Filton College’s WISE Campus every Tuesday and Thursday night:

Under 10’s:                  5:30pm – 7pm (Indoor Rubber Crumb)
Under 12’s:                  6:30pm – 8pm (Outdoor Rubber Crumb)
Under 14’s:                  6:00pm – 7.30pm (Outdoor Rubber Crumb)
Under 16’s:                  7pm – 8:30pm (Indoor Rubber Crumb)

Fixtures against other centres of excellence or training matches within squads will be played every Saturday.

In light of this increased footballing demand on players and the appreciation that they are not only active within school but also other sports it is advised that players regard the centre as their priority and therefore refrain from playing club football. To avoid burnout and overuse injuries the Centre of Excellence staff will be carefully monitoring players to ensure they are not exceeding recommended activity levels.

If you would like anymore information on any aspect of the trails or centre of excellence please contact me via the means above.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Sampson
Centre Director
