WL match

Bristol Academy finished their final home game with a 2 – 0 defeat against Everton Ladies.

The visitors had the first chance of the game early on after the Bristol defence failed to clear the ball and goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain pushed away Natasha Dowie’s close range shot.

Bristol came close to scoring from two set pieces after a fierce strike from Jemma Rose forced goalkeeper Danielle Hill to tip the ball around the post and Corrine Yorston’s free kick went just past the left hand post.

Neither side in the first half were able to convert or create many chances.

After the break Everton were awarded a penalty after Alex Culvin brought down Dowie inside the area. Fara Williams step up to take it and Chamberlain guessed right to make a fine save.

Everton’s first goal came on 62 minutes after the ball fell to Dowie from the corner whose shot beat Chamberlain and Grace McCatty unable to clear off the line.

10 minutes later Everton scored their second goal after Fern Whelan powered home a header from a Williams corner.
