Bristol Academy lose 2 1 against Lincoln Ladies in the FA WSL Continental Cup in what was a tough affair in the Quarter-Finals at the Stoke Gifford Stadium.
The Vixens started the better of the two teams after a fierce corner from Helen Bleazard caused Lincoln goalkeeper Nicola Hobbs to tip the ball over. Lillie Billson came close moments later after Jade Radburn’s through ball found the feet of Billson whose shot fired into the side netting.
Another dangerous corner from Vixens captain Corrine Yorston was well defended by the Imps’ Remi Allen who did well to prevent Anouk Hoogendijk from the inswinging corner.
Billson again came close to scoring after going one v one with the goalkeeper but could only watch her shot go straight at Hobbs. Hobbs and Billson both went in for the rebound and Hobbs managed to get her hands to the rebound and became injured in the save.
Lincoln had their first attack of the game which forced goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain to make a comfortable save from Leandra Little’s downward header from Lucy Staniforth’s cross.
The Vixens continued to dominate the first half, but got caught as Lincoln captain Casey Stoney got the better of Yorston and her low cross was scrambled over the line by Megan Harris.
From the restart Bristol attacked again when a shot from Anouk Hoogendijk from just outside the area was parried into the six yard box by Hobbs for Jess Fishlock to fire home from close range.

The visitors came at the Vixens early on in the second half forcing Chamberlain to save at the feet of Harris coming inside the penalty area. At the other end Yorston’s strike floated just wide of the top hand corner.
On the hour mark Bristol were reduced to 10 players after Radburn got shown a straight red after being caught as the last defender after tripping the heels of Jess Clarke who was through on goal.
From the resulting free kick Chamberlain made a fine save tipping over a Sue Smith free kick straight down the middle of the goal.
In the 76th minutes Lincoln took the lead after a short corner from Smith found Clarke on the edge of the area whose shot was curled into the top corner.
Bristol tried to get an equaliser but could only watch Bleazard’s strike from 20 yards go narrowly wide of the right hand post.
