Lincoln Ladies 3 Bristol Academy 1

Bristol Academy finish 5th in the FA WSL after losing 3 – 1 away from home against Lincoln Ladies at Ashby Avenue.

The Vixens were the better side in the first half and controlled the game. Jess Clarke had the first chance of the game after Clarke ran on to a through ball and her shot went straight into the side netting.

Bristol then got on top of the game and had two clear chances to open the scoring. Helen Bleazard had the first chance and hit the post after running through on goal. Michelle Green had the second chance and her shot went just wide of the post.

After 33 minutes goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain saved Clarke’s shot, but the ball was played across goal and Taylor turned it over the line to put the home side ahead.

2 minutes into the second half Jodie Taylor made it 2 – 0 after Bristol failed to clear a corner and the ball fell to Taylor who taped the ball in from close range.

Lincoln substitute Lucy Staniforth shot inside the edge of the area hit the bar and bounced back out in play and the linesman awarded a goal.

The Vixens substitute Loren Dykes came close to scoring with her first touch after Lincoln Goalkeeper Nicola Hobbs punched the ball straight to Dykes who shot fell just over the bar.

Bristol got a goal back after a fierce free kick from Corrine Yorston was headed into her own goal by Lincoln captain Casey Stoney.

The two sides will face each other again next weekend in the Continental Cup at the Stoke Gifford Stadium.
