The FA Cup match

Bristol Academy bounced back from a midweek WSL defeat to beat Liverpool 3 0 and earn a place in the FA Cup Final.

Bristol started the brighter team at Southport’s Haig Avenue when after five minutes Bristol broke the deadlock after Jess Fishlock and Ann-Marie Heatherson linked up well with Heatherson’s through ball found the feet of Fishlock who slotted the ball into the bottom corner past Worrell.

Bristol continued to dominated the game until halftime. The second goal came when a long ball from Jemma Rose found Fishlock on the wing. Fishlock took on two Liverpool defenders and found Heatherson in front of the Liverpool keeper who spun and tapped the ball into the back of the net.

Two almost became three when Helen Bleazard’s free kick found rose at the back post whose volley cannoned off the post for a goal kick. Bristol continued to press forward as Heatherson’s cross found Fishlock in the area who flicked the ball onto Michelle Green whose volley went just passed the post.

The third goal was came about on the half hour when the classy Fishlock was brought down inside the penalty area. This was to be Fishlocks last contribution to the match as the tackle caused her to be substituted. Calmly, Bleazard stepped up to put the ball in the bottom corner.

As the half was drawing to a close, Liverpool were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area after Anouk Hoogendijk brought down Cheryl Foster. Foster stepped up to take the free kick which goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain pulled out a world class save to keep a clean sheet.

Bristol commenced the second half as they finished the first when Katie Daley pounced onto a loose ball and put in Heatherson over the top and went one on one with the goalkeeper whose shot went into the side netting. Heatherson again came close a minute later when Loren Dykes cross into Heatherson who could only watch her shot go over the bar.
