Fishlock double earns victory

Jess Fishlock scored twice as Bristol Academy earned their first win of the second half in the WSL campaign away to Liverpool.

The Vixens travelled to Skelmersdale after taking league leaders Birmingham City to the limit but coming away as the losing side in midweek, looking for three points against a Liverpool side still without a win the WSL.

Fishlock almost opened the scoring on 22 minutes, but her effort was disallowed for a push by team mate Ann-Marie Heatherson in the build up.

Liverpool came close moments after when Sam Chappell’s deep cross looked to have caught out Siobhan Chamberlain who recovered well to tip the ball onto the post.

Fishlock opened the scoring after being brought down by Katie Brusell inside the penalty area and converting the penalty herself.

Fishlock almost got her second after her volley came back off the post just after half time.

Liverpool had their best chance of the game to score as the ball fell to Gemma Watson 12 yards out whose shot was saved by Chamberlain.

Captain Corinne Yorston came close moments later after her free kick went just wide of the post.

The vixens scored the second goal after 71 minutes when Anouk Hoogendijk pulled the back onto the edge of the six yard box to find Fishlock who got her second of the game.

Helen Bleazard almost got the visitors the third after her run and powerful shot hit the cross bar.
