Bristol Academy Womens Football club have announced the trial date for their 16-19 programme at Filton College will be held on Tuesday 13th March 2012 at the Filton College, WISE Campus 7pm 9:30pm.
The trial is open to any player who is interested in becoming part of the Female Football Academy at Filton College. Only players who have completed college application forms or contacted college coach Steve Grinham will be permitted to take part on the evening. Any interested players should contact Steve via email steve.grinham@filton.ac.uk to register their interest in attending. The trial will take place on 3G so players should bring suitable footwear (moulded studs recommended) and clothing.
Filton College Female Football Academy is the youth development programme for FA WSL club Bristol Academy (BAWFC). Currently over 25% of the WSL squad at the club have progressed through the Filton College Female Academy programme.
All players on the Academy are able to study the full range of courses on offer at Filton College which is integrated into their football development programme. Players accepted on the programme can look forward to:
- Daily training with BAWFC First Team Coaching Staff (UEFA ‘A’ Licence qualified coaches)
- Full time strength and conditioning coach support from Club Captain and England International Corinne Yorston
- Weekly Matches in Premier League Reserve Division Southern Section, British Colleges Elite League, English Schools U18 Cup, GFA Women’s Challenge Cup
- Opportunity to train with FA WSL players
- Full use of the excellent facilities at Filton College
The Academy encourages players to apply from anywhere in the UK and abroad. The Academy has years of experience of players moving to the area to attend the college as well as a full time accommodation officer to support the process of players moving to the area. The Academy is also able to offer support through bursaries for talented players to support costs.
With regards to exit routes after the Academy the college is in partnership with the University of West England to potentially offer scholarships to players who wish to progress through to University while continuing their football at BAWFC. The Academy also work with closely with a number if Division One universities in the US where at the end of the last academic year eight Academy players took up full academic and sporting scholarships.
The Academy programme at Filton College is continuing to grow from strength to strength and has a proven track record in producing players to play in the FA WSL and Internationally. Currently the Filton College Female Football Academy squad consists of three FA WSL players, England U19 International, England U17 International, five Wales U19 Internationals and three Wales U17 Internationals.
