Wednesday 15th February saw over 350 girls attend the FA Girls Football Festival Roadshow at Bristol Academys WISE Training Ground, Stoke Gifford.
The aim of the event was to inspire girls aged between 5 – 17 to get involved in female football and to increase participation in girls’ football.
The event took place in the Academy’s indoor training pitch, which consisted of different activities for girls to come and take part in. The sessions included an inflatable 5-aside pitch, Conti Warm Up area, Continental Shot Stoppers, Speed cages and Penalty Shootouts.
Also taking place was a the South West Regional FA Girls Player Development Centre Festival. Development Centres from Gloucestershire, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and Wiltshire took part in a round-robin competition and also attended the roadshow.
On hand throughout the day were players from Bristol Academy’s First Team squad. Girls had the chance to ask the first team questions in a Q&A session at the end of the day and show off their skills on the various FA Girls Football Roadshow activities.
Womens and Girls Football Development Officer Grace Bunker “It was great to see talented players from across the South West and local players from schools and clubs getting the chance to meet the female WSL players from Bristol Academy WFC. We hope that initiatives like this will inspire more girls to get involved in football within Gloucestershire. “
