Fishlock and Chamberlain Interviews

Bristolacademywfc.co.uk caught up with the Vixen's Jess Fishlock and Siobhan Chamberlain ahead of tonight's UEFA Women's Champions League game at Ashton Gate.

How do you feel ahead of the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League?

JF: I'm excited ahead of the first leg tomorrow, it’s a great tournament to be involved in and it’s a great test for BAWFC. I can't wait for it to start.

SC: Excited to be playing in the Champions League, especially in a great stadium like Ashton Gate, hopefully we can get a good crowd supporting us.

How has your training and preparation been in the lead up to the game?

JF: I think our preparation was a bit stop start due to the international break, however the group hasn't let that impact us to much and we've worked hard to make sure the preparation in the past 10 days has been good. We are ready.

SC: It hasn't been ideal; with the international break it's broken up the weeks building up to the game. I've been away with England, five of the girls with Wales and Anouk with Holland so although everyone has been keeping match fit and sharp, it's been difficult to train together as a team.

Do you know anything about Voronezh?

JF: We don't know an awful lot about Voronezh, but we know enough. There in the Champions League, it’s not there first time in the competition and they've won their league 5 times. That says enough about the strength and experience that they have. We just have to focus on ourselves and do our own things and use our experienced players to bring the team through.

What are you expecting from the game?

JF: I expect the game to be quite physical, slow and probably a little crazy at the beginning. Both teams will need to let the nerves settle and settle into the game slowly. Both teams won't want to concede so, I think it will be like a chess game but we will try to take the game to (Voronezh) because we are the home team and we’d like a lead to take into the away leg.

SC: I think it will be a very tough game. They will be strong and physical and also have some good fast technical players. We don't know a lot about them but will go into the game believing that we can win but not underestimating them.

Finally, what’s your thoughts on the first season of the FAWSL?

JF: I think the WSL first season has been a successful one, congratulations to Arsenal who have completed yet another treble, but I think they will admit that the league has been a far better, competitive and exciting league. BAWFC as a club should be very happy and proud of there first season as it has been a great success. A special thanks to all our fans who have turned up this season, they have been our 12th man and we look forward to seeing them again on Thursday and next season as we continue to move forward as a club.

SC: I think it will be a very tough game. They will be strong and physical and also have some good fast technical players. We don't know a lot about them but will go into the game believing that we can win but not underestimating them.
