On Sunday Bristol Academy beat Sheffield Wednesday 8 - 0 in their first competive fixture in The FA Womens Cup sponsored by E.ON 5th Round and now face an away trip to Millwall in the Quarter Finals.
After the game manager Mark Sampson spoke to fawsl.com/bristolacademywfc and was pleased with his teams performance
”Its a good win for us. People will look at the result and think it was an easy win but we had to play well. The result is down to the attitude of my players and quality of our play. We showed great intensity from the start and after the early goal we controlled the game very well. Our pressing was good and we showed a good variation between counter attack and possession when we had the ball. But we still have a lot of hard work before every play understand fully their role in the team”.
On the Academys opponents Sampson was quick to compliment them on their achievment of getting to the 5th round of The FA Womens Cup
”Credit to Sheffield Wednesday they have had a great run in the cup and at times defended very well. We wish them well now for the rest of their league campaign”.
On the teams progress so far Sampson again was positive
“We have a lot more work to get through before we are at the level we want to be but thats what we intend to do now. We have two weeks before the quarter final so we will get back on the training pitch and build on todays win. There is a good feeling in the group about our future”.
