South Gloucestershire Council has announced the winners of this years sports awards. The annual event recognises sporting achievement and the contribution sports clubs make to communities in the district.
Bristol Academy WFC Keeper, Siobhan Chamberlain, collected the Sportswoman of the Year award.
Siobhan, who works as a lecturer/teaching assistant at Filton College, has 19 caps for England and was part of the World Cup quarter finalist football squad in Germany this year. She plays locally for the Bristol Academy Women’s Football Team who were voted the FA Women’s ‘Club of the Year’. She won ‘save of the year’ for her acrobatic stop against Liverpool in the Vixen’s semi-final victory.
Siobhan comments: “I was really surprised to win it, there are some great athletes in South Gloucestershire. It caps of a good season overall and it's great to see women's football being recognised.”
