Things are getting hot this summer

Things are getting hot this summer with the Bristol Academy Women’s Football Club with an action-packed programme of matches and events for July and August.

After a thrilling FA Cup run, which saw the BAWFC reach the Woman’s FA Cup Final against Arsenal on May 21st with a huge audience at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry televised live on Sky Sports, the Club are delivering an action-packed programme for their loyal ‘Barmy Smurf Army’ and new supporters throughout the Summer.

Despite losing 2-0 to Arsenal, BAWFC have gained a huge following for taking on the mighty reds in only their first full season as a semi-professional team. Our media coverage has been unbelievable and we are incredibly indebted to our friends from the press, especially Chris Swift from the Bristol Evening Post who has helped the Club reach new heights thanks to his commitment and faith.

To encourage new fans to get involved in the Club before we start our UEFA Champions League campaign, we are hosting a number of friendly matches in the early part of July before the second part of the Women’s Super League season commences. There will be free entry to all of our friendlies which will be played at our Stoke Gifford ground at the Filton College WISE Campus.

All supporters will see a spectacular of football and hopefully will enjoy the atmosphere at the only purpose-built women’s football stadium. We will also provide you with entertainment in the form of dancing bands and a food village so that the whole family can enjoy these Sunday afternoon fixtures. The fixtures are as follows: vs. Swansea Sun 3rd July - KO 2pm; vs. Nott’m Forest Sun 10th July - KO 2pm; vs. Aston Villa Sun 17th July - KO 2pm

We are extremely excited about the start of the second half of the FA Women’s Super League season and we are superbly placed mid-way in the table and have the momentum behind us to achieve at least a top four position. Our next league match sees us play Lincoln City on Friday 22nd July with a 7.15pm kick-off. Tickets are £6 per adult and £3 concessions. We are working extremely closely with the Gloucestershire FA and will be hosting a number of children’s soccer competitions before the kick-off to celebrate ‘Schools out for summer’.

Our big focus of the second part of our season will be our match against Birmingham City on Wednesday 27th July – kick-off 7.30pm. Birmingham are the current league leaders and we are delighted that due to our huge crowd attendances and the potential excitement of the match, ESPN have decided to televise the whole of this match live from 7.15pm! We really would be delighted if you could join us.

Our final home match of our Super League Campaign will be played on Saturday 13th August, kick-off 6.30pm versus Everton Football Club.

We would be delighted to have your support before we start the next stage of our year which will see us playing in Europe in the UEFA Champions league.
