Bristol Academy drew 1 – 1 against FC Energiya Voronezh at Ashton Gate in the Club’s first UEFA Women’s Champions League game.

In front of a crowd of 1,556, Jess Fishlock looked to have given the Vixen’s the lead into the second leg after scoring on 76 minutes.

7 minutes later Jemma Rose was sent off for handling the ball on the line and Pamela Conti scored from the spot to put Voronezh level.

Voronezh started the brighter of the two teams and nearly took the lead after 8 minutes after Pamela Conti’s shot from just outside the box hit the crossbar.

The Vixen’s came close to scoring from two corners soon after when Anouk Hoogendijk’s header went straight at the keeper and Grace McCatty’s header went over the bar.

Ann-Marie Heatherson’s cross was cleverly left by Jess Fishlock for the oncoming Helen Bleazard whose shot went over from 18 yards.

The Vixen’s came close again moments later when Fishlock drove into the box and her shot was parried by goalkeeper Veronica Shulga but Heatherson’s follow up went over the bar.

Moments later Heatherson again had a chance to score after Bleazard’s cross was punched clear to Heatherson whose volley went just over the bar.

After the break, Voronezh substitute Nadezda Bosikova tested Siobhan Chamberlain with a dipping free kick, which was pushed around the post.

14 minutes from time substitute Lillie Billson beat the Voronezh goalkeeper to the ball just inside the edge of the box. The ball bounced out from the goalkeeper allowing Fishlock to follow up and put the ball into the empty goal.

7 minutes later Conti’s shot was kept out after defender Jemma Rose handled on the line. Rose was shown a straight red and the Vixen’s were down to 10. Conti scored from the spot to the right of Chamberlain leaving her with no chance of saving.
