The Centre of Excellence Under 16 Team

Under 16’s…No One else is doing this!

This season has seen a major change in the structure of the Girls Centre of Excellence, and the Under 16 age group is no different. In what is generally a difficult age group to recruit for, the Under 16 squad this season has become much more competitive than in previous years. With an ever increasing number of young girls playing football, it is hoped more 15 year olds will remain in the game and will come through the Under 16 age group in the future.

Coached by Nick Shipway and Claire Scanlan, the new look Under 16 team can be sure they will be tested to the max. Their ability, mental strength, nutritional habits and general lifestyle will be examined as the coaching staff look to get the very best out of the players.

Having these talented young players training at the professional WISE Campus facility also allows us to identify some of the best young female players in the area and gives them the perfect stepping stone to develop from youth football, through to further education at Filton College and ultimately onto the women’s senior team.

The players within the U16 Centre of Excellence team train twice during the week, Tuesdays & Thursdays, and play their fixtures on Saturdays throughout the season and are in the perfect place to develop and be nurtured for the next level.

As an added bonus, players on the Under 16’s have also been allowed to train with the Bristol Academy Women’s Senior Team, currently in 2nd place in the premier league.

This is a rare chance for the young players to train and play against senior internationals and allows them an insight into life at the next level. No other team in the country offers such an experience and our girls are fortunate that their development is enhanced by such an opportunity.

The coaching staff of our under 16’s is made up of Claire Scanlan and Nickolas Shipway. Claire is the Head Coach of the Filton College Female Football Academy and has been the Under 16 coach for the past 4 years. Nick has previously been the coach of Under 12 team and has a wealth of experience to bring to the Under 16’s.
